They never mention the gender of the main character either (obviously) even though they date two characters in the game (or two and a half, since the date with Alphys was fake, but that's not the point). They never mention Alphys and Undyne being gay or bisexual or whatever. One thing I love about Undertale is that gender literally does not matter. But if that ship is a tactfully handled background element, it won't be enough to turn me off an AU/fic/comic I otherwise enjoy, either.
